Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo (TIME) 2011 in Lampung on Sumatra, Indonesia

The city of Bandar Lampung at the most southern tip of the island of Sumatra will this year host Indonesia’s annual travel mart: the Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo (TIME) or Pasar Wisata Indonesia, to be held from October 12th to 14th at the Novotel Hotel Lampung. 

TIME is a special event that brings together Indonesia’s sellers to meet international buyers of Indonesia’s tourism products at this special “contract” show. The event will present the best of Indonesian tourism including popular travel destinations, incredible tourism sites, and the latest of Indonesia’s tourism hotels, destinations, airlines and services.

TIME was the first ever, and continues to be the only international travel mart in Indonesia allowing only special Business to Business contacts and negotiations, and is acknowledged by the international travel industry as the perfect meeting place for those who sell Indonesia’s tourism products and services (sellers) to directly meet the international market (buyers) all under one roof.

TIME has long been listed in the calendar of international travel marts together with such prestigious events as ITB Berlin, WTM London, Arabian Travel Mart (ATM), PATA Travel Mart, and similar.

This year marks the 17th edition of the Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo (TIME). The event is organized by the Indonesian Tourism Society (Masyarakat Pariwisata Indonesia) and is supported by entire range of tourism stakeholders, including the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, the Provincial Government of Lampung, the Culture & Tourism Office of Lampung Province, Garuda Indonesia  as Official Airline, other supporting airlines , the Indonesia National Air Carriers Association (INACA), the Board of Airline Representatives in Indonesia (BARINDO), the Association of Indonesian Tours & Travel Agencies (ASITA), the Indonesia Hotels and Restaurant Association (PHRI),the  Indonesian Conference and Convention Association (INCCA), with Titan Convex as the event organizer, supported by national and international media.

Last year, when TIME 2010 was staged in Lombok the event recorded a total transaction of US$ 17.8 million, while this year, organizers project an increase of between 15-18% to reach total estimated contracts to a value of US$ 20 million.  

During the signing of the MOU between the Indonesian Tourism Society (Masyarakat Pariwisata Indonesia) and the Culture & Tourism Office of Lampung Province, Chairperson and Steering Committee of TIME 2011, Meity Robot, said that “TIME buyers this year comprise international tour operators, while sellers include hotels, airlines and tourism destination stakeholders,” said Meity.

Over 100 buyers" from 30 countries will be present at this prestigious event, including those from the United States of America, Germany, and Holland. There will also be buyers from new markets for Indonesia such as Slovenia, Slovakia, Greece, the Czech Republic, and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Head of the Culture and Tourism Office, Gatot Hadiutomo , mentioned  that TIME 2011 in Lampung be linked to the annual Mt.  Krakatau Festival , adding that the province is ready to welcome all guests to TIME and the Krakatau  Festival with the thrilling rolling waves of Tanjung Setia beach, the exotic wildlife of Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, the Way Kambas Elephant Reserve, and obviously an unforgettable visit to the mighty Krakatau volcano.

Ubud, an enchanting town in tropical Bali's undulating hills, will come alive with the elan of the global literary elite as the Ubud Writers & Ubud Readers Festival readies to be held from 5 to 9 October 2011.  Carrying the theme "Nanduring karang awak": Cultivate the land within" — a line from  the epic poem Gaguritan Salampahan Laku by Ida Pedanda Made Sideman - attendees will be encouraged to explore the great global common perceptions of mind and heart in just the perfect spot to do this with the stunning views on Mount Agung.

Now in the top six of such festivals, according to Harper's Bazaar, Ubud attracts an impressive array of writers from around the globe and draws devoted pilgrims in ever-greater numbers. Among some of the prominent names who will be coming to Ubud this year are:  the Booker Prize-winner Ann Enright ("The Gathering"; 2007), self-styled "faction" writer Tash Aw, the Malaysian author of "Harmony Silk Factory" (2006) and "Map of the Invisible World" (2010); as well as Christos Tsiolkas, the controversial Greek-Australian author of "The Slap" (2009), who defended his use of vulgarity, arguing that critics are guilty of class bias and that he doesn't just write for the privileged. In total, The 2011 Festival guest list features more than eighty writers from all corners of the globe, converging in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia for five days of celebration and inspiration.

Participants will engage in panel sessions, workshops, readings, literary lunches, performances, book launches, exhibitions, children events, Festival Club and much more, temptingly located in Ubud's legendary hotels and charming cafes, restaurants and temples. The festival will also be an opportunity to  Join In Conversation with celebrated writers such as US novelist Alice Sebold, Australian musician, songwriter and wordsmith Paul Kelly or Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre (IRE/UK), dine in sumptuous splendor, pencil in a workshop and explore writing fiction, editing in paradise or travel writing, brave a poetry slam or wax lyrical with Festival authors after dark at the Festival Club.

The 21st Krakatau Festival 2011

The Krakatau Festival is an annual special event which is an essential program for the province of Lampung. Entering its 21st edition, this year the festival is scheduled to be held from 12-16 October in concurrence with the Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo (TIME) 2011 which will take place in Bandar Lampung.  As in previous years, the festival will be filled with a series of exciting events to watch and participate.

The festival will present an array of cultural splendors of Lampung Province by delegations of each district, from the deep rainforests of the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park all the way to the peak of the remnant of the mighty Mount Krakatau volcano lying between Sumatra and Java.

Krakatau Festival will commence on October 12th, 2011 with the grand opening ceremony of both the Krakatau Festival XXI and TIME 2011 where all delegates will be welcomed by the Governor of Lampung, Chairperson of the Indonesian Tourism Society and the Minister for Culture and Tourism.

There will also be a Pan Ensemble Music and an art performance entitled Karya Cipta Pesona Sai Bumi Ruwa Jurai.

On 13th October, the Lapangan Enggal in Bandar Lampung will be decorated with colorful costumes and eye-catching spectacles as the Cultural Carnaval parades through its streets.  On 5th October, the might of Mount Krakatau will be celebrated at Mahan Agung with music and performances in a show called Krakatau Night. Prior to the Krakatau Night, the exceptional elephants from the Way Kambas National Park will show their amazing skills in performing various acts at the Enggal Field, which includes a game of Tug of War against a group of people. 

The peak of the festival will occur on 16th October where participants will be taken for an extraordinary tour along the shore of Lampung , all the way to the foot of Mount Anak Krakatau volcano itself.  Among participants joining the tour are ambassadors from foreign countries with their spouses and staff, the Governor and vice governor of Lampung with families, members of the media, and TIME buyers and sellers. 

The festival will also be highlighted with various supporting events such as: a Photography Competition and Exhibition, a Painting Exhibition, a Music Festival, a Youth free-style talent show, a Kite Festival at Siger Tower, Paragliding Attractions, a Motorbike Rally, Ethnic Graffiti art contest, and a Lampung Culinary Bazaar.
